Wonderkid’s rapid rise to the top almost complete with major new achievement

The Evening Standard have become the latest paper to report on the fact that Levi Colwill is going to step up and join the England senior team for this international break.

The young central defender was named in the U21 squad to play in their European Championships tournament in Romania and Georgia, but has also trained with Gareth Southgate’s senior group this week – as we’ve seen in photos from the sessions. Lewis Dunk’s withdrawal from the squad has created space for Colwill, and he may even earn his first senior cap in the next week.

It seems more and more likely that he travels with the Three Lions to Malta for their Euro 2024 qualifier. After that, Gareth Southgate’s team return to England to face North Macedonia at Old Trafford. He could feature in both games and still be able to join up with the U21 team for their opening game of the tournament against the Czech Republic in Georgia on the 22nd of June.

By the time he joins up with Lee Carsley’s team in Batumi, he could well be a fully fledged and freshly capped England international, a brilliant extra icing on top of a breakout season that has gone about as well as anyone could have hoped.

If Chelsea continue to push to get rid of Kalidou Koulibaly to make space for regular minutes for Colwill in the first team, his prospects will look even rosier.
