Liverpool interest could raise price of relegated midfielder for Chelsea

Liverpool were expecting to spend £100m on Jude Bellingham this summer, and so now that deal is no longer happening, they’ve got a lot of cash burning a hole in their pocket, as well as a hole in their midfield.

They’ve already made one move – swooping for Alexis Mac Allister of Brighton in a deal that we expected to see confirmed sooner rather than later. But according to Football Insider, they’re not done there.

The Reds are also chasing a more defensive option, bringing them into direct conflict with Chelsea’s shortlist.

The Blues want Romeo Lavia from Southampton, who has suddenly become a much more viable target now that the Saints have been relegated. But they’re not the only ones.

Liverpool are apparently keen to “hijack” any move for the midfielder, who has just earned his first Belgium cap. Chelsea have other options they’re exploring – primarily Manuel Ugarte but also Felipe Caicedo of Brighton.

There are a lot of options on the table at the moment, but they will disappear fast, and it’s important we focus on finding the best one and securing it before other teams do likewise.

Lavia would surely prefer a Liverpool move given they’re in Europe and have had more success in recent years – but we can offer him a lot too, if we can just agree a reasonable fee with his club, who are surely not looking to hold on to him in the Championship.
