€25m 20 year old should be careful about coming to Chelsea after seeing what happened with last talented goalscorer

Chelsea have joined the race for yet another young talent, according to reports in Italy being translated by SportWitness.

The Blues are hot on the tail of Elye Wahi, the Montpellier striker who scored 17 goals and got 6 assists for the team from the south of France. That’s a good return for a player of any age, let alone who who has just turned 20.

Transfermarkt values him at €25m, but with Arsenal also linked, there could be a bidding war developing if scouts really like him.

Waih should be wary however. There are recent examples of moves like this going badly. Back in January we signed the red hot David Datro Fofana, also 20, from Norway, and he’s since vanished into the ether. We assume he will be loaned out this summer, but he didn’t get a sniff in the last 6 months even as we went through the worst striker crisis for a long time.

Does Elye really want to join the queue behind a player who got so few chances? It’s hard to turn down Chelsea, and perhaps we could organise a loan back deal, but we really want to kill off any reputation we might get for being a graveyard for promising European talents.

Ultimately we’re looking for a first team number 9 this summer, and as much as we might like to hoover up these promising talents, we need to prioritise players who can make an immediate impact.

  1. Yes because 20 year old walk straight into a team in the world’s toughest league a new league and Country. Datro-Fofana didn’t disappear into the ether he played for the u21 team along with Hall, Hutchinson and Slonina. Had he arrived in the summer you might have a point he didn’t and you Don’t.
