Chelsea forward gets closer to Real Madrid for “€50-60m” deal which represents a major loss

The rumours around Kai Havertz’s move to Real Madrid are really picking up steam.

The attacking midfielder is surplus to requirements at Chelsea after a year where he played a lot without finding much success, and the Blues are ready to cash in as they revamp their team. He doesn’t striker us as the dream Mauricio Pochettino player either, so the wheels could very much be in motion.

German transfer insider Florian Plettenberg is leading the story now, and he today produces an update on the bargain prices that Chelsea are going to ask for. He says the Blues will accept €50-60m+ bonuses for Havertz, who cost them significantly more in the summer of 2020.

Madrid are looking for a Karim Benzema replacement, and all signs are that they like Havertz a lot. Rather unexpectedly given he wasn’t one of the favourites to leave, it looks like Chelsea’s summer of sales could be kickstarted with the departure of the German international.

While we’re losing money on him, it at least gives us an immediate injection of cash which we can use to put towards attacking signings of our own. It may also take the pressure off our need to make other sales quickly, allowing us to hold out for better terms on other deals.

Havertz could be a real hit in Madrid, but he’s got huge shoes to fill, and the white shirt weighs heavy on some players.
