Chelsea and Man City agree £30m fee for midfielder with medicals “in the next days”

We predicted that the Mateo Kovacic to Man City move would happen quickly, and so it has proved to be.

Fabrizio Romano has just Tweeted out his “here we go” meaning the deal is happening, and he includes further details about how it’s all come together. It seems like all parties can be relatively satisfied with a deal that gets everyone what they want.

City will pay £25m up front and another £5m in bonuses and variables, which is exactly what we predicted they’d pay. Personal terms with the midfielder were completed two weeks ago, and according to Romano the Croatian “only wanted Man City.”

He will complete his medical “in the next days,” and then be announced as a new Man City player. With just a year left on his contract it was important for us to get this deal done, but when combined with the other outgoings, one wonders what midfield solutions the club has up their sleeve.
