Three Chelsea stars expected to miss England duty after rocky end to the season

We are into our final week of the season – thank God – and Chelsea have just two games left to play.

It’s not quite the end of the football action until August though – as always there are a final flourish of some international games tacked on to the campaign to follow.

Chelsea have been used to sending a great contingent away to play with England, but as the Daily Express point out this morning, that won’t be the case this time.

They explore some players from top teams who have been England regulars but are set to miss out this time. On the list from Chelsea’s camp are Mason Mount, Ben Chilwell and Reece James, all of whom are out injured – but back in training on the grass at Cobham.

Having basically voluntarily shut them down for the season, Chelsea are unlikely to be too happy about them being called up by Gareth Southgate now, and given the timing and relative lack of important of these games, we reckon Southgate mixes up his selection somewhat and just leaves this trio to rest and recover and enjoy a summer break.

We certainly hope so, anyway…

There is one who could make it though – Conor Gallagher has been taking advantage of Mount’s absence and has played a lot since January. He could be called up and get more minutes with Southgate’s squad in the weeks to come.
