Thiago Silva makes his plans for next season very clear – and some fans will be disappointed

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has added another year to his rolling one year deal, so he will be at the club next season.

There have been some doubts about that, after some poor games from the veteran. He’s still world class, but there’s a growing clamour to see him replaced by younger players who represent the future.

Benoit Badiashile looks like he will be a top defender, while Levi Colwill is a prodigious talent set to return from loan and expect to play significant minutes next season.

Silva’s end of season comments make it clear that he’s not going anywhere however:

“Me and Chelsea fans… it was love at first sight. I feel really happy here. I’m really proud to be at Chelsea. Obviously, this year didn’t go well at all, but all we can do is hope for better next season”.

You can see the defender’s quotes in the post embedded here:

Of course a lot depends on the identity of the new coach and the plans they have. But we expect to see a lot of Silva in action next season whoever comes in. Put him back in a functioning team again and he will look as good as he did last year.

Even those fans who want to see us make our team younger will see the value of keeping a top class professional at the club.
