Mauricio Pochettino “has now signed his contract” as Chelsea manager

Mauricio Pochettino has finally signed his contract to become Chelsea manager, according to Matt Law.

The former Spurs coach has been front runner for weeks, and it’s puzzled fans and pundits alike that he has yet to actually sign up. But Daily Telegraph Chelsea correspondent Law has today given everyone the news that the deal is signed – and just now needs to be announced.

We trust Law, and so we’re now convinced that Pochettino is effectively already the new Blues boss, returning to the Premier League to try to do what he never could with Spurs – win a trophy. He’s got his work cut out before a ball is even kicked however, with players to be sold and bought and staff to be changed, and a broken dressing room needing to be picked up off the floor.

That ends a long period of uncertainty which has underpinned the continued unravelling of the team on the pitch. Let’s hope the prospect of a new man coming in gives some much needed urgency and commitment to a listless team which has been drifting horribly for weeks.

Chelsea play their final game of the season this afternoon against Newcastle – perhaps the idea is to announced him to the fans then, or even have him in the stands? It feels like we’d already know if that was the case, but we’re ruling nothing out now.

Keep your eyes peeled around the directors’ box at Stamford Bridge later this afternoon.

  1. About bloody time!!!!!!!!!! what was the point of all the waiting. Looks like a typical Yank mentality, hope he stays well back next season, so the club can try and re-build what he has destroyed.

  2. Graham, totally agree, he acted like the UK Govt, threw money at the problem, scttergun method without knowing what the problem was!!! My feeelings are that we have a toxic dressing room and a number of players have to go asap. No need to buy a new keeper as we have Slonina who is playing well for the USA at the U20 World Cup
