The reports of the last few days have been very promising with regards to Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s potential move to AC Milan.
There have been whispers about it for a long time, as interest from Lazio seems to have faded to make the Milanese club front runners. But it’s only in the last week that Fabrizio Romano has taken up the story and started speaking with authority about an impending move.
Even today he added an update saying things were progressing well and that Loftus-Cheek remains a top target for Stefano Pioli’s team.
But there are some question marks over the move too, as pointed out by SempreMilan. Italy’s rules about non EU players mean that Loftus-Cheek is more than a big financial investment. He will also take up the second of their slots assigned to “foreign” players.
The Italian giants are very interested in Daichi Kamada, the Frankfurt attacking midfielder who is available on a free transfer at the end of this season. He’s the kind of player Milan love to sign, but is also obviously a non-EU player.
The only way Milan could bring him in as well as Loftus-Cheek, the piece suggests, is by ditching their backup goalkeeper Devis Vasquez, who they signed from Paraguay in January. He could be unregistered and go out on loan, but it’s likely to be a slightly messy situation either way.
If they want the easy and cheap route, it would be keeping Vasquez and signing Kamada on a free, and leaving Loftus-Cheek to someone else.
