EXCLUSIVE: “Top source” claims Brighton midfielder is Chelsea “number one” priority to partner Enzo Fernandez

Our writer Simon Phillips has just dropped an exclusive on his Substack claiming that he’s been told Moises Caicedo has been made Chelsea’s “number one” target for the summer by a “top source” at the club.

The Brighton midfielder has been on our list for some time, but has been behind others like Declan Rice. But with Rice now likely out of our reach, we’ve come back around to Caicedo.

He also adds that incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino has given the green light, meaning that Chelsea can move fast:

“Unless there is a miracle, Chelsea won’t be landing Declan Rice this summer (it’s not over yet). And incidentally, yesterday I was told by a top source that Chelsea have placed Caicedo as their number one priority for midfield this summer. This has been approved by the decision makers and Pochettino, Chelsea want Caicedo and will move for him very soon.”

The idea with Caicedo is to partner him with Enzo Fernandez, who is a brilliant player but looks pretty lost in the middle of a dysfunctional team at the moment. Fernandez isn’t afraid to get stuck in but his defensive positioning and technique isn’t the best, and he’s wasted on the back foot anyway.

If Caicedo can do more of the running and win some aerial duels, plus allow Enzo to range further forward knowing he’s being covered, that will be a huge help to the team. The question is what the Ecuador international’s ceiling is. Clearly our scouts are convinced he can go to the very top – are you?
