Chelsea owners “regret” speed of Tuchel sacking now

The sacking of Thomas Tuchel was in many ways a long time in many ways, but at the same time it was absolutely shocking when it happened.

Compare the speed with which the Champions League winning manager was given the axe with what felt like the endless chances that Graham Potter was given. Despite the fact that Tuchel had trophies, goodwill and pedigree in his favour, he was dumped almost the moment things started to go sour.

The roots of the sacking are explained nicely in Jacob Steinberg’s comprehensive piece on Potter’s time at the club in the Guardian, as are some revelations about the aftermath. It seems that the owners didn’t realise what a prime manager they had on their hands until he was gone, and they were left wishing that they had given Tuchel more time to turn things around:

“Tuchel’s relationship with the board had plummeted but there was still a naivety to letting him go. He has just won the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich and his tactical acumen probably would have kept Chelsea around the top six. There is regret over the speed of his dismissal now.”

Clearly the worse things got under the German’s successors, the more these regrets grew. Could you blame them? Now not only did they have to watch their chosen successor (and later his successor) struggle and fail, they also had to watch Tuchel walk into one of the top jobs in football and win the title with Bayern Munich.

El se benefició de la estructura y trabajo anterior mientras duró, se les olvida cuando el mismo Tuchel criticó a la plantilla casi como acto de suicidio y Todd le trajo lo que quiso, fichajes fracaso que aún dolemos…
