Chelsea join race for top young La Liga talent with €40m release clause

Gabri Veiga is one of the top talents in La Liga, emerging this season as a key player for Celta Vigo and now being watched by big teams all over Europe.

He’s picked up 9 goals and 4 assists in a very average Celta team, and is just 21 years old. It’s no wonder then to hear AS today report that Barcelona and Real Madrid have had scouts watching him all season, but to that list they add Chelsea, Man City and Man United as interested parties.

He has a €40m release clause, and we might see multiple clubs ready to pay that, making it a straight competition between them over who offers the best wages and who offers the most tempting project overall.

He’s potentially not quite the type Chelsea are looking for – we would prefer a more physical and defensive option to match with Enzo Fernandez, while Veiga is a more box to box marauders, but he’s so good that it might not matter.

We have some serious competition, but if we really want him, we can probably make it happen.
