£80m national team star tempting German champions as former Chelsea boss takes control

Chelsea are anticipating interest from Bayern Munich in their attacker Kai Havertz this summer.

There’s been a major shakeup in Bavaria in the last week, with both Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic losing their jobs as the German giants look to change their fortunes after a poor season.

Julien Nagelsmann’s failure and mid season sacking was seen as one of the main things which counted against them, and his replacement Thomas Tuchel is going to absorb a lot of their powers on the football side.

According to a piece from Dean Jones on GiveMeSport tonight, that could lead to the former Chelsea boss moving for his old player. Havertz has never fitted in at Chelsea and would likely be delighted with a move back to his home country, while the Blues would be delighted to recoup some of the major money they paid for him back in 2019 when they spent £80m on him.

Tuchel was probably the coach to get the best out of his countryman at Chelsea, and given he still plays well with the German national team, Bayern might see him as a useful player to pick up – perhaps initially on loan.

Jones’ piece claims Chelsea are “anticipating that one day Bayern will come knocking,” which seems a little far fetched – but they to like to hoover up the national team’s big players, and Havertz has long been one of those.

With Thomas Muller coming to the end of his career, perhaps Havertz can be his successor as a position-less floating attacker roaming around and finding space?
