Chelsea on the list of clubs the Italian media are linking with interest in Giogio Scalvini.
The young defender has really impressed for Atalanta in the last year as the Bergamese club continue to hit the bullseye with young talent.
A price of around £35m is cited and that could be great value for a player who played 30 times in Serie A this year as a teenager. He’s very strong defensively but also steps forward really well with the ball and plays it nicely up the pitch, something that’s increasingly important for defenders in the modern game.
Despite all that, we can’t see why we would be interested in another centre back however. This strikes us as a case of lazy rumours writing. We’re already stocked up with a mix of veterans and young talents, and there are already questions about what we will do with Levi Colwill once he comes back from his loan at Brighton.
There is certainly no need to spend any other this summer’s limited budget on another central defensive option.
Perhaps we will leave him another year to continue developing and return when Thiago Silva and Kalidou Koulibaly have left or are closer to the end.
