Graham Potter picks one centre back in interesting roll of the dice

Graham Potter finally seemed to have turned things around before the international break. He had won 3 and drawn one, and had a relatively easy game against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge today to keep up the momentum.

One would think he would just go with a steady selection – instead he seems to have picked a new look setup with just one recognised central defender.

Yes Thiago Silva is out injured, and Wesley Fofana hasn’t been considered fit to start today, but Benoit Badiashile is sitting on the bench while what looks like a back 3 of Reece James, Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella is playing.

Of course it could be Cucurella playing with KK at centre back in a four – either way it’s an interesting call from Potter, whom we were expecting to keep things steady in the circumstances.

Let’s hope it works out against a well drilled and dangerous Villa side.
