Denis Zakaria huffs and puffs on Chelsea return

Denis Zakaria looked well off the pace in Chelsea’s disappointing loss to Brighton.

It was probably to be expected. Graham Potter has barely used him since his recovery from injury, and he was then thrown in to an intense game against an in form and well coached Seagulls team.

Chelsea were able to block their attacks down the middle, but as the halves progressed and Zakaria tired and was less able to slide out wide, the away side had more and more joy down the wings.

The number of the changes to the team in general – 6 of the outfield 10 – meant that there was no real structure in attack, and the ball kept coming back at the knackered Zakaria.

He got a 5.8 rating on WhoScored, and didn’t look like he was going to be convincing Frank Lampard to use him again.

There were times this season where it looked like he had the chance to make himself a regular, but bad luck really cost him.
