Young Chelsea striker gets minutes and a goal for his country

David Datro Fofana was one of Chelsea’s more interesting January signings, coming to the club for Norwegian football as a true rough diamond.

We’ve seen him in a couple of brief cameos for the club so far, but as he didn’t go out on loan and looks a little short of first team level at the moment, he’s not had a lot of football since January.

Players in his position – and we’ve had plenty at Chelsea – are often very reliant on international football for games, and that’s exactly what has happened in this case.

Fofana is the captain of the Ivory Coast U23 team, and he started both games for the young Elephants in this break, scoring in the game against Togo last night to win his team a mini 3 team tournament in Morocco.

We don’t envision him getting many more first team chances, so like players like Ethan Ampadu before him, Fofana will be enjoying these chances to play.
