Two new Portuguese clubs on Todd Boehly’s shortlist

Todd Boehly has been open about his desire to buy clubs to create a “network” supporting Chelsea, and it’s been widely suggested since the Autumn that a team in Portugal is one of his priorities.

The news earlier this week was that his attempts to buy 75% of Algarvian side Portimonense had failed, but Boehly is not easily dissuaded, and he has commissioned Portuguese super agent Jorge Mendes to try and find alternatives.

The Portuguese press in places like Mais Futebol are today reporting that two of those potential clubs are Rio Ave and Moreirense.

Either would be interested – although both are in the north of the country, and would miss out on the year-round training camp advantages of  base on the south coast.

All of this so that, in the future, we can get our own Joao Felix and our own Enzo Fernandez, with the Benfica tax. On current evidence, a worthwhile investment!
