Top midfielder heaps praise on Declan Rice and claims “he will end up at a top side”

England beat Italy 2-1 last night in Naples, a really impressive result and a good performance from the Three Lions.

Key to the win was West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, who scored the opening goal in the game with a nice finish and went on to dominate the midfield. He ended up as man of the match, and after the game was given great praise by Marco Verratti, the PSG midfield orchestrator.

“I really like him as a player,” Verratti said of Rice in quotes picked up by The Sun.

“He provides great balance and shape to the team, and he’s got wonderful physical attributes.

“He really helps his team out a lot.

“He’s a number six, a defensive midfielder that England really need.

“I’m sure that he will end up at a top side because I’ve played against him many times, he never gives up.

Rice was in the Chelsea academy as a kid and has been linked with a transfer here for years. The chatter has died down in the last 12 months as we’ve spent so much in other areas, and look less likely to have the desire or the capability to spend the €100m+ it will take to get him away from West Ham.

Clearly those of us who always said Rice was on his way to the top have been proved right however, whether he ends up at Stamford Bridge or not.
