Rio Ferdinand hits out at childish Leicester fans for Chilwell abuse

Rio Ferdinand didn’t hold back when he criticised Leicester fans for the way they treat Ben Chilwell every time we play them.

Ferdinand says those fans “deserved” the way their former academy kid Chilwell celebrated in their faces after he scored at the weekend because of how they had treated him.

“They got 50-odd million for this kid, a left-back, out of Covid, and they are booing him,” Ferdinand explained in quotes picked up by the Leicester Mercury.

““He did great job there, part of the league-winning team, and they are booing him for going to Chelsea. It doesn’t make sense. So good, I’m glad he done that, give them a bit back, they deserved it. They should respect him.”

Of course fans have responded to Ferdinand on social media trying to justify why they hate Chilwell, as they interpret some of his comments after he left them to join us as “disrespectful.”

It’s just football fans being football fans, and it’s not like Chelsea supporters would do much different, but really, what Chilwell said was so harmless it hardly merits abuse every time he plays the team where he came through the academy. He’s wants to move on, and so should the Foxes fans.
