Noni Madueke could be Potter’s one wildcard against Villa – but only if one of his front 3 is struggling

Training footage from this morning showed Reece James, Wesley Fofana and Kai Havertz all training after their international break injury and illness complaints, while Enzo Fernandez was also in the mix despite having played for Argentina in the early hour of Wednesday morning.

We will find out more in Graham Potter’s press conference in an hour, but it likely means an almost fully fit squad for Potter to pick from, with only Thiago Silva and Armando Broja out.

That should mean the Chelsea coach sticks with the winning formula from the last few weeks – a back 3, probably Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Kalidou Koulibaly; Ben Chilwell and Reece James at wing back.

Enzo Fernandez can play in the middle, likely with Mateo Kovacic (N’Golo Kante is ready but not match fit to start yet). Then things get interesting.

Joao Felix, Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling seems like Potter’s favourite 3 at the moment, but Noni Madueke is pushing hard for minutes, and if any of that trio seem fatigued, he could well slot in to provide some direct dribbling threat.
