Juventus still hopeful Chelsea will snap up cut-price Zakaria

A piece in the Gazzetta dello Sport today looks at Chelsea’s players out on loan and what their futures might be. The Old Lady are hoping to shift a lot of their deadwood this summer, much like Chelsea.

One of Juve’s players on loan is Denis Zakaria at Chelsea, and this piece correctly assumes that there’s no way that the Blues will be willing to pay the set purchase fee of €28m plus €5m in potential bonuses.

But they speculate that that fee could be negotiated lower, with Juve keen to get rid of him and Chelsea considered their options in midfield.

At the moment it looks unlikely, but we wouldn’t rule it out entirely. If Zakaria ends up winning his place back in the team and playing well for the rest of the season, and if Chelsea can negotiate a purchase closer to €20m than €30m, he may well end up looking like a tempting bargain option when compared to a €100m Declan Rice or Jude Bellingham.
