The latest episode of saccharine Netflix football show Ted Lasso has a strong Chelsea theme to it, and the producers have somehow wangled a tie up with the club that has seen manager Graham Potter and some of his players do fake, in-universe interviews about a fictional match from the programme.
That’s cringey enough, and we wish it had never happened. Unfortunately, that’s just modern football for you.
But the show’s producers (and those at Chelsea who signed off on it) have made a major faux pas in allowing a real fan made tribute to the late Ray Wilkins to be altered and used in the show, as you can see below:
If genuine and if the club signed this off then it’s very poor from them.
Altering a banner (paid for and designed by supporters) which commemorates a Chelsea legend who has passed away, all for the sake of a club marketing campaign. Complete lack of respect and understanding. https://t.co/xcqkIFz0kT pic.twitter.com/25X4y5BSdo
