Gregor Kobel appears to be Chelsea’s top option if they pull the trigger on goalkeeper upgrade

An important part of Chelsea’s Champions League success against Borussia Dortmund last week was the fact that the German side’s first choice goalkeeper Gregor Kobel was out injured.

Backup Alex Meyer just isn’t the same quality, and Chelsea punished him.

He’s been brilliant since joining the black and yellow from Stuttgart, and GetFootballNewsGermany say that Chelsea and Manchester United have him on their shortlist as a future option.

We see this more as a long term plan for the Blues – for one, Kepa Arrizabalaga is playing well enough to shunt “new first choice goalkeeper” to the back of our list of priorities.

Additionally, Kobel is a top player on a big contract, and Dortmund would ask huge money for him right now. We’ve spent so much this year, and still have pressing issues, and we can’t see spending €80m on a goalkeeper being something the board are keen on at this moment.
