Graham Potter is the most expensive manager appointed in Premier League history

Bringing Graham Potter and his chosen staff members to Stamford Bridge cost Chelsea £21.5m, according to figures in The Sun today.

That makes Potter the most expensive managerial appointment in Premier League history, as Chelsea paid off Brighton for their manager’s services. He’s also the second most expensive in football history, after Bayern Munich pipped them to the post with their £22m spend on Julien Nagelsmann a year before.

No wonder the ownership have always insisted they’re fully behind him, after they stuck their neck out with such an expensive appointment. Potter has endured a phenomenally tense start to his time at the club after a string of horrific results, but he’s recently found some wins, and looks safe until the end of the season, with his team facing a fascinating Champions League Quarter Final against Real Madrid next month which could yet turn this season into a positive one.
