Former Blue names current Chelsea player who is “a different class”

A former Chelsea defender has named the one current player who he believes is a ‘different class’ when he gets on the ball.

Chelsea made some big signings last summer and even more again in January, but not all of them arrived as permanent transfers.

Joao Felix arrived from Atletico Madrid on loan with no option or obligation for Chelsea to sign him permanently. This means in the summer they have a big decision to make, and potentially some negotiations with Atletico, if they decide they want to sign Felix.

Former Chelsea captain Frank Leboeuf believes Chelsea should try and sign Felix, as long as it doesn’t stop them signing a new striker, which he believes to be the priority.

But Leboeuf raves about Felix in his latest exclusive and extensive Chelsea column for Si & Dan Talk Chelsea.

Leboeuf believes Felix is one of few Chelsea players who can make things happen on the ball.

He said: “Since Joao Felix came in he has been the only player being a real threat for a us. Every time he touched the ball he was doing something different. He’s been a bit clumsy in front of goal yes, but he is always creating something and the only one creating something.

“I like the spirit of the guy, he seems to get on well with the rest of the players. He speaks English and is understood by the players. I see Kai Havertz and Felix having a very good pairing and partnership.

“I feel that the guy loves what he does, and I didn’t see him like that at Atletico Madrid. He is different class, when he gets on the ball he is different class. He belongs to that planet of players that make you go ‘ooooh he is something different’. If he can score goals on top of that, he can be one of the best players in the world.

“It will be silly to not sign him, but I understand the finances. We talked about having the right striker coming in next season. If we have to make a choice between Felix and a striker, and we are sure that striker is going to bring us what we are looking for, then get the striker, that’s for sure.”
