Fabrizio Romano wades in on Levi Colwill’s Chelsea future

A lot has been said about the future of Chelsea defender Levi Colwill in the last few days, with reports suggesting Chelsea must ‘fear’ an approach to sign him from Brighton.

Of course, Colwill is currently on loan at Brighton, but there is no option for them to make it a permanent deal.

I mean, the ball is completely in Chelsea’s court here. Colwill has a contract until 2025 and no need to desperately sell him this summer. It is highly likely that they will be looking to extend that deal, but naturally, it looks like Colwill wants to see what plans the club have for him next season and going forward first.

Colwill will want to be coming back in and playing regular football at Chelsea.

Transfer expert has had his say on the situation, and he says that Chelsea really like Colwill and fought hard to make sure there was no option for Brighton to sign him this summer.

Writing in his exclusive column for Caught Offside, Romano said: “Chelsea are very happy with Levi Colwill’s development and it took two days of extra negotiations with Brighton last summer to make sure he was going there on loan and not on a permanent deal with a buy-back clause.

“At the end of the season, the situation (for the future) will be discussed with his agents.”
