Edouard Mendy has not had contract discussions in 6 months

Nizaar Kinsella’s piece in the Evening Standard about the Chelsea players likely to be sold this summer has some interesting details about a few different players, including Edouard Mendy.

The Chelsea stopper is still on the contract he signed when he arrived at the club, and according to Kinsella, there have been no discussions at all about a new one since September, when talks last broke down.

Mendy has barely played in that time, with injury giving Kepa Arrizabalaga the chance to win his place back, and Mendy also suffering a broken finger in that time. It’s an amazing fall from grace for a keeper who looked top level for a while.

All signs are pointing towards Mendy wanting to leave, and Chelsea being pretty happy to sell him as they look to raise funds and clear first teamers off their wage bill.

Unless a buyer for Kepa appears out of nowhere, it looks like Mendy will be on his way after a surprisingly brief spell at Chelsea.
