Conor Gallagher turned down January move to prove himself at Chelsea

Conor Gallagher was “very close” to an Everton move in January, which only fell through because the midfielder turned it down, according to Jason Cundy on TalkSport today.

The former Chelsea player revealed that both Gallagher almost had the chance to go back to Crystal Palace, where he spent last season on loan, in the summer, but clearly the Blues weren’t convinced by any offer the Eagles made.

“My understanding is that Chelsea didn’t want to get rid of him in the summer. Even though Crystal Palace came back in. My understanding is that, in January, he was very close to going to Everton. But I believe he didn’t want to go through with the deal so nothing happened.”

While there’s no denying he’s not a starter, his role as first off the bench in every game is an important one, and those 30 minute cameos really start to add up.

Considering it’s his first season back at Chelsea, he will likely consider this season good progress, and be pretty pleased with his decision to turn down chances to leave in the summer and January.
