Christian Pulisic can’t help but pick out Chelsea’s big flaw

Christian Pulisic has now joined up with his national team like the majority of Chelsea’s squad, but like the rest of them, he is still a little haunted by what happened in our last game before the break.

Chelsea had plenty of chances, but let themselves get pegged back twice by the away side, including a goal in the final moments that robbed us of two points.

If we had held out a few minutes longer we would have gone into this fortnight with 4 wins on the spin. Instead, it’s a painful draw which really changes the psychology.

In quotes on the club’s official website, Pulisic explained the frustration he and his teammates felt, but also tried to keep a positive spin on things:

“It was tough to take, to be honest. We had a really strong week last week, a couple of wins in a row, and we thought we had another one. We have to learn from it and bounce back after the break.

“We have built on our confidence. I like the way we are playing in a lot of ways. Saturday was unfortunate but yes, we can be proud of overcoming that tough spell we had and we are trying to look forward,” Christian said.

“I felt like we had a lot of control for most of the time I was in the game and naturally when you take a lead, you are a bit hesitant, a bit more defensive. That was the only time we felt threatened, at all, but I think it was a good performance and we could have been up by two or three goals.”

Once again though, threatening to be up by two or three goals is very different to actually being up by three. Bad finishing costs us because it lets the other team stay in the game, and we’ve seen time and again how we’re punished for that.
