Chelsea’s £35m Portimonense bid turned down as Boehly intensifies chase

The new Chelsea ownership’s project to buy various satellite clubs around the world is off to a rocky start after a £35m bid for 75% of Portuguese club Portimonense was turned down.

The links to the Primeira Liga side were first mentioned way back in September, but the total transformation of Chelsea have put this project on the back burner – until now.

Certainly Todd Boehly and co. have settled on Portugal as a good starting point for their multi club mode for various reasons, and Portimonense (based in Portimao, in the Algarve) seem to be their first choice.

Manchester City had similar approaches for the same club turned down, so it may be true that they’re simply not interested in outside investment – but we reckon it’s just going to need Todd Boehly to up his offer a little bit.

Meanwhile, attempts to buy a chunk of French club Strasbourg are going much better.
