Chelsea will ask for €70m for Mason Mount – and Liverpool have already had “significant conversations” over a contract

With every passing day, we seem to get a little closer to a Mason Mount transfer away from Chelsea.

We all know the story by now – the midfielder is at a contract impasse, and the club will sell him this summer if a new deal isn’t agreed.

The Athletic today published a long piece which adds a lot of depth to the story, and reading that makes it clear that Liverpool are currently favourites to sign him.

The Reds have had “significant conversations” about what kind of a contract they would offer him, and how he would fit into their team, a more advanced form of planning than any of the other suitors have reached yet.

The stumbling block may be the price – this piece says Chelsea are asking for £70m for Mount. If other teams are really pushing that might be achievable, otherwise we can see the Blues being talked down to £50m, given the contract situation.
