Chelsea star moves closer to Liverpool with Reds “seriously interested”

As each week passes we get more convinced that Mason Mount will be leaving Chelsea this summer.

His contract has less than 18 months to run, so all signs point to him being sold this summer to ensure the club get a fee for him.

Not long ago we would have been certain he would sign a new deal – securing our home grown talents was supposed to be one of the new ownership’s priorities, but they have not been able to come to terms with the midfielder.

An exclusive from Football London today builds on the story, saying that Liverpool are leading the race and are “seriously interested”, even though Chelsea would prefer not to sell to a Premier League rival. The Reds think they can get a “cut price” deal once there’s less than a year on Mount’s contract remaining.

We can’t think of much worse than seeing Mason play for Liverpool – it’s better than Tottenham, but only just.
