Chelsea ‘not planning next season’ with player but loan club ‘have some reservations’

Chelsea have some decisions to make on players this summer, and some of these decisions will rest upon what other clubs and the player’s themselves want to do.

One situation is the Romelu Lukaku one. He is only at Inter Milan on a season long loan deal, meaning he will be back at Chelsea in the summer. The belief was that he might then either extend his loan at Inter and go back there, or they would sign him on a permanent deal back from Chelsea.

But that doesn’t look very likely right now, so some decisions will need to be made by all three parties.

Insider Ben Jacobs has said that Chelsea are not planning for Lukaku for next season, meaning he will have to be sold or loaned out somewhere.

But writing in his exclusive and extensive Chelsea column for Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, Jacobs also says Lukaku desperately wants to stay at Inter.

“There were lots of positives for Chelsea players during the international break,” Jacobs said.

“One of the most notable was actually Romelu Lukaku, who scored a hat-trick in Belgium’s 3-0 win in Sweden. The treble just might help him get going at Inter, where he has only managed three Serie A goals. It was also important for Lukaku to get back to scoring ways for Belgium after those glorious spurned chances against Croatia at the World Cup, which cost his country a place in the knockout stage.

“Lukaku desperately wants to stay at Inter and Chelsea are not planning next season with him in mind. But Inter still have some reservations, so Lukaku hitting a purple patch will clearly help all parties. Perhaps his Belgium hat-trick can get him going.”
