Chelsea give permission for August charity match

Chelsea are making plans for a charity game at Stamford Bridge in August to raise funds for Ukraine following the Russian invasion.

The Evening Standard’s Nizaar Kinsella has an exclusive which claims that Chelsea co controlling owner Todd Boehly has provisionally agreed for a match of some description, described as an “American style all star match” with involvement from the Ukrainian players in the Premier League (including Chelsea’s January signing Mykhailo Mudryk).

It would take place in August, and would presumably feature guest stars from all over world football.

Former Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko is involved with several similar charities, and would likely play an important ambassadorial role here in bringing together a game.

As part of the deal to sign Mudryk, Chelsea also agreed to play a friendly against Shakhtar Donetsk at some point in the future should the conflict end – unfortunately that could still be years away.
