Chelsea dodge €120m bullet on transfer of dangerous AC Milan winger

Last summer was unbelievably hectic for Chelsea fans, with so much transfer chatter it was hard to keep track.

But if you cast your mind back, you’ll remember that Rafael Leao was one of the names we were being linked with most intently.

The winger had come off a brilliant title winning campaign, and the Rossoneri were asking for €120m for him. Chelsea didn’t want to pay that – and that’s looking increasingly like a good decision.

Milan have had a poor season, and while Leao has managed 9 goals and 10 assists, he hasn’t sparkled quite as brightly. Sportwitness today quotes sources in Italy which say that the asking price for the Portugal star is now perhaps just €70m-80m, with his contract now getting into its final year.

Chelsea have invested so heavily in other options in that area, however, that it’s hard to see them being in the race this time around.
