Chelsea could offer striker €9m a year – but still not manage to make signing

ClacioMercato are getting very excited about the prospect of a summer move for Victor Osimhen to Chelsea.

The striker has been tearing up Serie A with Napoli, and if he leads them to the title this year he may see a perfect opportunity to leave a hero.

Italian sources say that Todd Boehly is going to offer him €9m a year – but it’s not the contract that would be a problem, it’s the transfer fee to Napoli, who are in a strong position and likely to hold out for crazy money.

It would follow in a pattern we’ve tried many times over the years without much success – buy the best striker around and hope it works out. With Romelu Lukaku, Fernando Torres and Andriy Shevchenko it did not.

Osimhen looks an exceptional talent, and if you were picking one striker under 30 in the world to come to Chelsea, you’d probably pick him.
