Chelsea coach told to stay away from training while club negotiates his release

Chelsea coach Anthony Barry has been told to “stay away” from training sessions while Bayern Munich are engaged in negotiations with the Blues over his future.

The German club approached Chelsea over the weekend to ask for permission to speak to the highly rated coach, but did not offer any compensation. Chelsea have insisted, and now the clubs are working out what that figure might be.

Barry has made it clear internally that he wants to go to Germany to link up with Thomas Tuchel, whom he worked under at Stamford Bridge. Still just 36, Barry is clearly keen to build the most impressive CV possible before he starts his career as a manager in his own right.

The added twist to all this is that, if both teams win their quarter finals, they will meet in the Champions League semis.

It will all be worked out in the end – but it may turn nasty in the meatime.
