Chelsea coach explains what he and his team can do better

Ever since the winning run he began his Chelsea career with ended, Graham Potter has been on the back foot.

Results have gone badly, he’s had to defend himself – while trying not to make excuses – and it’s all rather awkward and sad.

So at least this week – following a win – he gets the chance to be a little more constructive. Finally, with everyone praising him, he’s able to be modest and point to what he wants his team to do, rather than defend their shortcomings.

He knows what’s wrong with this team as much as any of us. And despite a win against Leeds, the problems with the team was obvious yesterday, as he explained:

“We have to attack better as a team. That’s my responsibility. It’s too easy to zoom in to individuals and blame them. It’s a collective, we have to create more, do better, and that starts with me. Helping the team get better and more chances.”

It’s nice to see him explain so clearly what the problem is – the question is how he will deal with those problems. A lot of these players are new, but he certainly hasn’t created a coherent attacking structure for those players to play in yet.
