Willian gets standing ovation on his Stamford Bridge return

Willian scored for Fulham when the Whites beat us a few weeks ago, and while he didn’t manage a goal today, he put in an excellent shift at the Bridge for 75 minutes before being subbed off.

He got a standing ovation from the crowd – who then sang his song, for perhaps the final time at Stamford Bridge.

Today was a perfect example of what Willian brought to this stadium for so many years. Hard work on the wing, combined with a strong tactical discipline and a twinkle of magic. He actually gave the returning Reece James a very tricky night, and the full back went off looking pretty knackered after an hour, while the 34 year old winger powered on.

Always an extremely divisive player in large parts of the fanbase, Willian was much more loved by the fans in the stadium than those on Twitter, and tonight proved that point once and for all.
