“The fans will go ballistic” – Sky Sports pundit says Graham Potter cannot lose to Spurs

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson told Sky Sports as cited by Metro UK that Graham Potter cannot lose to Spurs this weekend otherwise “the fans will go ballistic”.

Spurs home and away is seen as one of, if not the biggest match on Chelsea fan’s calendar every season. No matter the opponent, The Blues fans sing “we hate Tottenham, Chelsea” every matchday as the players walk out onto Stamford Bridge.

Since the new Tottenham stadium was built in 2019, Chelsea have won four times whilst losing only on one occasion against Jose Mourinho on penalties in the league cup when Frank Lampard was head coach.

Merson told Sky: “If he loses this one I’m not sure there is a way back because the fans will go ballistic”.

He then also admitted that Potter could also quickly make himself a hero with a win: ‘This game can change everything though – if Chelsea beat Spurs he can also be a hero”.

I certainly agree with what he is saying, Spurs is the biggest rivarly for the fans and they do not forget Chelsea managers who lose against Spurs – Antonio Conte faced boo’s after overseeing a 3-1 loss at home to Spurs in 2018. Ironically, he is now the Tottenham manager.
