Injury speculation after Mykhailo Mudryk hauled off after 45 minutes on first start

If Mykhailo Mudryk’s first game for Chelsea was a bright showing off the bench, his first start was the opposite.

The Ukrainian started the game, played poorly, and has been taken off at half time.

There’s speculation that he picked up an injury, but that seems generous to us. Now that Graham Potter so many options on the bench – Noni Madueke is making his Chelsea debut as Mudryk’s replacement and Raheem Sterling followed shortly after – it seems that players in attacking positions are going to have to get used to getting dragged off very early.

Players in Mudryk’s position – particularly those with his style of play – are always going to be hit and miss, and if that first half pass to him had fallen a little differently in the box, we might well be signing his praises right now.

Instead he’s sitting on the bench, and his rivals for minutes now have the chance to impress.
