Former Blue says Chelsea player needs to ‘wake up’ before he ‘drowns’

Chelsea are back in Premier League action this evening against Fulham at Stamford Bridge, and it’s another huge game for The Blues as they look to continue picking themselves back up after a poor run of form and performances.

No player apart from Thiago Silva has been incredibly consistent over the last couple of months at Chelsea, but there has been a clear drop off from Mason Mount.

Former Chelsea captain and club legend Frank Leboeuf had plenty of praise for Mount in his latest exclusive column for Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, but there was also a stark warning for the England international as well.

Speaking on players who might suffer now the Chelsea squad has become so bloated after all the new signings in January, Leboeuf said: “I think Mason Mount is the future of the club because he belongs to the club, like John Terry, and he has to realise that of course there is pressure. I love the guy and I know he’s capable of giving much more than he does right now that’s why I’m very hard on him because he’s a fantastic player and he’s showed it to the world. But he has to wake up otherwise he is going to drown like so many of the other players.”

Mount is likely to get the nod tonight against Fulham, and there is a collective feeling that he needs to step up his performances again now, performances we all know he’s got in him and have seen consistently before.
