Enzo Fernandez unlikely to feature for Chelsea against Fulham according to the evidence we have

In his press conference today Graham Potter wouldn’t confirm is Enzo Fernandez was going to start when Chelsea face Fulham tomorrow.

But the photos from training today are out, and there’s no sign of the Argentine anywhere. If we were in doubt before, we’re now pretty sure he’s not going to feature. If there’s any way to avoid it, including switching to a back 3, we reckon Potter goes with that.

The existing evidence we had for the manager’s proclivities one way or another when it comes to new players was his treatment of Joao Felix. The Portugal star was thrown in at the deep end after just 24 hours or so at the club – but there were mitigating circumstances.

Firstly Potter was really desperate for that game, with no attacking setup having worked in the preceding weeks. Attacking players with a free role need less time to learn their role than central midfielders. The other factor is that Felix speaks English, while Fernandez has been communicating through a translator.
