Chelsea “offered” Bordeaux to kick start multi club model

Chelsea have been “offered” second tier French side Bordeaux to kickstart the multi club model as they scout around France for potential clubs to invest in, according to Romain Molina via webgirondins.

Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital want to build a model similar to City group where the club can send out their youngsters on loan to progress and develop.

The owners could look for a full purchase of the chosen club in which they would then have full control over it, or more likely they could opt to buy a minority investment where they would then work alongside the full owner of that club with the agreement that their club would be a partner of sorts with Chelsea.

We saw similar a few years ago between Chelsea and Vitesse where the Blues would send a number of loan stars out every season to develop, in this case however there was no contractual agreement or stake that Roman Abramovich held, it was more just a fantastic sporting partnership that was built over time.

If Chelsea and Bordeaux are successful in potential negotiations, the Blues could be potentially investing in a club that has developed many talents, including Aurelien Tchouameni and Jules Kounde, who were both once Chelsea targets.

There is sure to be further developments over time with the multi club model set to fully take shape in the coming months, for now though, it is good to see reliable reports about Chelsea looking at clubs in France.
