Captain’s great gesture to disappointed wonderkid

Andrey Santos has had a whirlwind few months.

He was starring in the Brazilian second division until December. He was then bought by Chelsea, but stayed in South America to compete in the continent’s U20 international tournament.

He starred in that competition, and Chelsea wanted to bring him into their squad for the second part of the season. However last night we found out that he had failed in his attempt to secure a work permit, meaning he will have to go on loan back to Brazil.

He’s still had an incredible year given he’s just 18, but he will be feeling slightly gutted he has to wait for his chance.

So how nice for him to get a tribute from Cesar Azpilicueta in the programme notes at Stamford Bridge. Azpi congratulated the youngster for his performances and goals in the U20 Championships, which will have cheered him up.

That’s real captain behaviour.
