Portuguese sources sure that Chelsea’s new Enzo angle won’t work

The last couple of days have seen rumours abounding that Chelsea are back in for Enzo Fernandez of Benfica.

After sorting out other positions, midfield is the priority, and Enzo is our first choice.

The whispers reported this morning by Record in Portugal are that the Blues want to offer €100m in cash, plus a player in part exchange. Given that Fernandez’ release clause is €120m and the player might be worth more than €20m, it seems a good deal.

But that same article refers back to last night’s big update from the Portuguese paper, which is well connected at Benfica. Rui Costa, the club president, is holding out for the full €120m, just as he was at the start of the month.

We can try to get around that however we like, it doesn’t seem like they will budge. Our dreams of getting in a player we want while getting rid of one we don’t want appear to be dead.
