One reason Everton are more likely to sign Ziyech after Lampard departure and one reason they’re more likely

Everton had been linked with Chelsea midfielder Hakim Ziyech in recent weeks, and the crazy goings on on Merseyside make it harder to predict than ever whether a transfer is possible.

One reason that the Toffees are more likely to sign Ziyech after Frank Lampard’s dismissal is all to do with Anthony Gordon. He clearly liked playing under Lampard, as he’s downed tools and started missing training since his coach was sacked. He’s pushing for a move to Newcastle, which will leave Everton desperately short in attacking positions – and ever more keen to sign an option like Ziyech to try and save their season.

The reason they’re less likely to sign him (as the Sun point out) would be that Lampard was one of the main driving forces for Ziyech to come to Everton – both in terms of the player wanting to play for him and in terms of Lampard wanting the man who he signed for Chelsea.

Which way it shakes out in the end though, we will have to see…

  1. Why in the world would Ziyech agree to personal terms with a club (albeit a storied one) that appears to be in a relegation death spin? As badly as Ziyech may want away, I can’t see him agreeing to go anywhere that doesn’t offer European cup football.
