All the focus is on Chelsea’s potential incoming players on this most thrilling of January deadline days, but so far the only action has been outgoing.
The club have just announced that 19 year old academy product Jude Soonsup-Bell will depart after not coming close to breaking into the first team this season, and clearly deciding he is better served striking out on his own. He has been running down his contract, and it was just a question of where he would go rather than if.
Soonsup-Bell got his debut this time a year ago in the depths of our nasty winter Covid wave, but after 7 years at the club it’s farewell to Jude, who leaves to join Tottenham, who have presumably offered him a more direct route to first team action.
It’s a sad sight, and one we might have to get used to seeing – a talented young player we’ve looked forward to seeing in the first team get pushed to the margins by expensive imports.
