Chelsea ‘spinning multiple plates’ with two late offers for midfielders possible

Chelsea are not sleeping at this late stage of the January transfer window. In fact, it appears to be the complete opposite. They are wide awake and they are completely on top of it readying more moves for more players.

Amazingly, even after signing a handful of new players already this month, they are now looking at making bids for two midfielders at this late stage.

Insider Ben Jacobs has his latest column for Si & Dan Talk Chelsea out now, and of course, the biggest talking point was Chelsea’s midfield plans this window and for the summer.

Jacobs says that Chelsea are ‘spinning multiple plates’ at this late stage of the window and are still potentially looking to make offers for Moises Caicedo of Brighton, after seeing a bid rejected last week, and Enzo Fernandez of Benfica, after talks initially stalled earlier on in the window.

Moises Caicedo remains firmly on their radar and I do expect them to further test Brighton’s ‘not for sale’ stance this January,” Jacobs wrote in his exclusive column. “As first revealed in December, the Ecuadorian has been a top target for quite some time.

“Caicedo is a very level-headed and humble person. His head has been turned by Chelsea’s interest and the chance to reunite with Graham Potter.

“We should also watch whether Chelsea come back in for Enzo Fernandez. Club sources still maintain they have no intention to trigger the £105 million (€120m) release clause.

“It’s quite normal, late in the window, to be spinning multiple plates. And it can also be a tactic, in the final few days, to table a last-minute offer and see if a club caves. This is especially true with Fernandez, because even Chelsea’s ‘lowball’ offer is still significantly above Fernandez’s current (and in all likelihood summer) valuation and Benfica (ultimately a selling club) know that.”
